I thought it might be fun to just list a couple things that this game does to you occasionally that are really hate-worthy (in a fun way, of course).

I just hate it when...

1) ...the locations keep piling up in the staging area with no way to get rid of them.

2) ...all the Surge cards the encounter deck has to offer come out in one batch.

3) ...the Rangers of Ithilien both end up with the "wrong" deck (multiplayer).

Continue the list, if you like.

Bye

You think things are going great, the staging area is clear, and then all hell breaks loose with a combination of ridiculous monsters, treachery, and shadow cards...all in one turn.

... playing Journey down the Anduin and you draw a second Hill Troll on turn 1.

... playing Journey to Rhosgobel and the first two encounter cards are Swarming Insects (deal 1 damage to each character without an attachment) and Festering Wounds (deal 2 damage to each damaged character).

This right here ALWAYS gets us! lol... I definitely second this one. I spend every turn hoping and praying for a Northern Tracker that never seems to show up in this situation!

corrected for you :-P

Hiting a bad combination of cards is ugly - but being hit by one single card direct in the face is even worse for me - and sometimes I want to play decks which don't include spirit with all its cancel treachery stuff... (at least my favorite Lore has some goodness against shadow effects...)

Yeah, Northern Trackers are essential then...but we've found that if you're playing a deck with Lore, Asfaloth can be just as helpful as the NTs...particularly if you have Glorfindel to boot...

Oh yeah. I've had several times where I have a perfect strategy laid out for that turn, and then I turn over a card that kills most of my allies and at least 1 hero and I'm a sitting duck. Those cards are awful.

This is more me than the game.

You have beaten a quest - you have tried for 10 times - you have finally beaten it with your deck building skills and you are sitting their basking in your glorious skill with a stupid grin on your face - you look through your cards laid out on the table revelling in the key decisions you made to negotiate your way through the quest and then bam!

You realise you missed a key rule
Or a phrase on the quest card
Or you realise on reading a card or ally that you were playing it wrong all along

Your win suddenly means nothing - you have to start from scratch.

But you are learning so at least you can take that......

Or is this just me......

I do this all the time. I had a game going really great on JAtA, got past the troll, dealing with the encounter cards in the second phase...and then I realized that I had only been revealing one card, not two. I couldn't sort it out so I had to scoop.

Sounds like just about every game I play - win or lose!

My most common mistake is forgetting that a certain card is unique and ending up with duplicates in play.

Last night i played a single Redhorn Gate for two hours.

Eowyn, Denethor and Glorfindel (Sp) set off, and everything was going fine, thanks to Denethor with Unexpected Courage and Henmarth Riversong cherry-picking cards from the encounter deck. Glorfindel was slain by a snow warg and denethor also met a grisly end by stage 3.

But fear not. I still had Eowyn, with Steward of Gondor, Celebrian's stone, favour of the lady, i had Faramir, i had Brok, i had west road travellers etc. etc. I easily got the 13 Progress Tokens i needed - BUT needing 5 Victory Points to win i had to keep going.

I played and played and played and played.

I sneak attacked Gandalf (twice). I had resources coming out of my ears. I stopped placing progress markers at 13 but easily could have added 18 more.

I gave up when my threat finally reached 32, the monsters began to swarm, it was 00:30, and some weird casino phone-in gameshow was on ITV.

At the end of the game i took at look at the remainder of the encounter deck: Celebdil, at the very bottom of the deck; Fanduinhol 6 from bottom.

These must have got there through shuffling as i had been putting monsters at the bottom most of the game.

It is instance like this that infuriate me and make me feel that a bad shuffle of the encounter deck is just unbeatable for a solo player some times.

Today I intend to get my revenge.

BTW - does anyone else think that Redhorn gate is up there with the very best Scenarios.

PS - in case you are wondering why Brok was in my deck, i had previously been using Bifur as the lore hero and wanted Brok as an extra life.

In my book it is. Generally I prefer the quests of the Dwarrowdelf cycle over the Mirkwood ones. Especially "Foundations of Stone".

Also another thing I really hate: When you modify your deck, put some brand new cards in it to give them a shot, but they never ever show up. Or get discarded!

I really hate it when Gandalf leaves after sticking around for only one turn. I spend more time saving up to pay him than I do adventuring with him. It's the equivalent of taking guitar lessons that cost more than your weekly salary. Overpriced wizard! He must be making a frikking fortune popping in on games all over the place for 5gp a pop.

Lol, at least the new Gandalf in the Hobbit expansion gives you the opportunity to keep him around.
