Instead of rolling that stupid resource die multiple times, try this approach, similar to how food is collected in Stone Age:
1. For each goldmine/forest hex, roll 1d6 for each worker.
2. Add the dice and divide by 2, rounding down. This is your gold/wood harvest.
3. For each "6" rolled, add a resource depletion marker to the hex (up to a maximum of 2).
Statistically, this gives almost the same results as the original game. It uses 3 normal d6 per player instead of having to share the special die that comes with the game, so players can roll simultaneously. It avoids the fiddliness of the resource methods in the expansion too.
But I like "fiddliness"
