I have the game mats for Wings of War and would love to find something along the same lines except with a space theme. Anyone have any ideas? What is everyone else playing on?

I have a 6x4 sheet of black cloth that has very subtle splotches of gray that I was using for our Necromunda games. This will work perfectly.

I've ordered one from Hotzmats.

It doesn't say it on the website but if you email a custom order he will do a 3' by 3' one with stars with or without the nebula for 17 dollars.

It's even cheap enough shipping for those of us in the UK.

Can't wait to see how it turns out when it arrives.

I'll be playing on a table. Yar.

Seriously though, we have one of Boards & Bits black premium table covers on it, so it will be perfect: http://www.boardsandbits.com/product_info.php?products_id=24...

Now whether or not the cat hair that seems to always be on our table can be considered "terrain" or not is another story.

I have one of these left over from Battlefleet Gothic and BS:ACTA:

Specifically the Star map. That and some lava rocks I have painted up as asteroids will do the trick for me.

WalMart may still sell this starfield fabric. I bought mine for Space Hulk and have used it for Elder Sign. I bought the material late '09 or early '10. It wasn't more than $3 a yard.

I head to Walmart fabric clearance for covers like this. You can find awesome stuff there for a few bucks.

Indeed, Paul! I have a corner classroom with eight windows dealing with sun all day long.
Rather than change the classroom for seasons and holidays, I asked parents to sew curtains that I buy from those clearance sales at WalMart! Quick easy change and fun for everybody. I still don't have a complete academic year's worth of curtains, but I'm getting close. My wife laughs to see me browsing the fabric section at WalMart.

I like black Formica. I had a table game tray made up for Eclipse that should translate well for this. The tray is made in finish plywood and trimmed with a low rail. The tray concept allows you to turn your dining table into an ideal game table, and you can pick it up and move it to store between sessions, or more likely (because it's 3X4) just eat dinner and get back to the game.

Shot of it under construction:

Cheers!

From the thread "Making a mat":

Here is what I made for under $15:

Most of it came from Hobby Lobby.

- Fabric, 45" width, 3 yards @ 2.99/yard.
- Acrylic hobby paints @ .70 per: White, red, yellow, light blue.
- Plastic compartment palette (optional) @ $1.
- Toothbrush, use an old one or get one from dollar store.

Just lay out the cloth on a surface where you can make a little mess. Squirt out a little paint onto the palette and load up the toothbrush bristles with paint, then hold it over the fabric and drag your thumb across the bristles to spray paint dots. More paint on the brush equals larger dots.

I did mostly white and mixed in some yellow, red, and light blue to give a little variety.

Easy
