My (soon to be) 9-year old daughter Kaitlynlaugh loves playing board games. Her current favorites are Finca, Dragon Parade, Dice Town, Pony Express and Dungeon Run. She also likes Apples to Apples Junior, Bears! and (of course) the usual kid fare (Sorry!, Sorry! Sliders, Gulo-Gulo, etc.). She doesn't like Forbidden Island (and didn't appear interested in Pandemic) but she does like Castle Panic, so co-ops are an option

I have a large collection and am open to buying games for any reason. With that being said, I'm a bit perplexed about what other games to introduce to Kaitlyn. While we are able to play with other people, I'm looking for good 2-player compatible ideas that I can play when Kaitlynlaugh and I are alone.

(She insisted that I put the laugh after every mention of her name! She's a great kid!)

You missed one! But that's really adorable.

Well among my nieces & nephews about that age range favs are:
Kill Doctor Lucky
Cleopatra and The Society of Architects
10 Days in Africa

Yet each of these are multi player.

I'll consider this, presently no 2 player games come to mind

You're right! She caught that too! Here: Kaitlynlaugh. That fixes it!

She asked me to also say she likes the family version of Agricola.

My 9-year-old godson is hooked on Ticket to Ride which can work well with two (or with Mom, also!). If she's not careful, she may learn a little geography, too!

Zooloretto is a good choice. The BGG market is now flooded with copies people want to trade since they got it clearanced at target.

These all play well with 2 (though many play with more).

7 Wonders

My 5-year old has played about 50 games of this with me lately. Minimum 3 players though there is a 2-player variant though. But it get 7 thumbs up!

A Fistful of Penguins

Cute theme, super simple but fun.

Manila three though

Merchants & Marauders plays 2

Flash Point: Fire Rescue - she'll love this - works well with two

Dixit - the game you should try with more than 2 people! Should be a blast!

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game - if she's into the theme this is the best for long term gaming for two - my 5-year old is 100 games in already!

+1 for Survive: Escape from Atlantis!. They are probably out there, but I have yet to meet a kid who hasn't enjoyed it! I brought my copy into my class for board game day (I teach 10 year olds) and they LOVED it.

Also good for 2-players:

Mr. Jack (and spinoffs)
Blokus (and spinoffs)

and though it might feel like a large camel has put its nose under your tent, my 9-year daughter laugh also enjoys

Pokémon Trading Card Game (and, you guessed it, spinoffs).

The family just played Fearsome Floors and really enjoyed it. Quick and easy to learn and play, and while its pretty basic there is some decent tactics to be had in your movements. My daughter is 8 and liked it very much.

Test
I have an 8 1/2 year old daughter who loves playing games with me. Her favorites to play 1 on 1 are Jambo (best with expansions) and Balloon Cup. I saw on BGG news that Balloon Cup is supposed to get a re-themed reprint, so maybe wait for that.

I just asked her what else she could think of besides those two and she mentioned Neuroshima Hex and Ubongo.

So there are some recommends from my daughter to yours

Disclaimer: I'm a big N-Hex fan which is why my daughter is; may not be your daughter's cup of tea but you never know.

Since posting this yesterday we tried (and Kaitlynlaugh) liked Cadwallon: City of Thieves. I was surprised how much fun we had - I didn't expect myself to like the game.
