When it comes to moving Zombies, how do you handle noise coming from inside a building?

If "dinner" is not within line of sight, but there's noise coming from a building, do they make a beeline for the noisy walled-off zone or do they go to the closest open door?

I've been playing it that they are smart enough to find the door out heading towards the source of the noise.

In another topic it was suggested that this will be FAQ-ed and that the official stance of the game designers is this:

1. Zombies move towards the noisiest location using the shortest route.
2. If zombies cannot reach that location (all doors closed) they instead move to the closest door to that location.

Someone suggested (and I like that explanation) that doors are less soundproof than walls, so they allow more noise to be heard, but when a open door path is available, that is even less soundproof.
