Well i've been looking for miniature rules that can be used with any minis. There are two different types of rules i've been looking for

the first type of rules i would like would be something that can be used for skirmishing by using dnd minis. i know that 3.5 had its own game but then i would have to find all the cards for the minis and so on..I looked into buying the old chainmail rulebook by Gygax but its kind of expensive and i don't know if it is any good.

the second type would be some kind of mass warfare rules but it wouldn't have to be fantasy based. It could be rules for Napoleonic warfare or something like that.

anyway what are some of your favorite minis rules and why?

thanks in advance

Savage Worlds might suit your needs for the skirmish.

In my experience generic rules that go across many eras/periods aren't very good. For medieval type skirmish games I would recommend something like Saga or Pig Wars, which are pretty fun to play. For mass battle it would help greatly to specify a period as there are literally hundreds of rules sets.

Brink of Battle does skirmish from Ancients to Modern Era, the Fantasy supplement preview was just released, and Sci-Fi rules are in the works.

I second the Savage Worlds rules, it's fun, fast and furious gaming, with just the right amount of crunch.
