Here is a list of SW starships with their in-game scale, using 1/270 scale (1cm : 2.70m) as described in FFG rulebook (p26). The starships are mostly from the Rebellion era but I have also included a few outdated models.
Released ships are highlighted in green, announced expansions in blue. The ships in each category are sorted by size.
Note that I have only added the length of the starships. The lambda shuttle, for instance, will probably be larger if you take the wingspan into account.

Starships

Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor (5.47m) : 2.0cm
TIE fighter (TIE/ln) (6.4m) : 2.3cm
TIE bomber (TIE/sa) (7.8m) : 2.9cm

You just saved me a lot of work as I was considering doing something similar.

I really can't see them making anything larger than a CR90. Even that would likely be way too big. The Rebel Transport at 90m seems plausible.

If you want to add to your list, the Rebel Transport would be good. Some common EU ships could include Skipray Blastboat, Z-95 Headhunter, Imperial Gunship (from the TIE Fighter video game), and maybe an assault shuttle.

No worries, I will add more ships asap.

I agree it will be hard to get capital ships in the game. The models would be nice though !

Edit. updated the original post

Excellent list. Just to point out that Cloud City should be 6000cm=60m. Sorry to be nit-picky.

I'm pretty sure that the ships being released as the TIE Advanced are actually Darth Vader's x1, the other TIE Advanced (TIE/ad) has forward and rear points on the wings. Like the TIE Interceptor, but stubbier.

That list is fabulous. Where did you come up with some of those? My geekhat is pretty big and I've never heard of some of them.

Cheers. There is heaps of info online. Lots of the ships come from the Star Wars novels (and the movies obviously - the Braha'tok-class gunship for instance). I have also cross-checked in my SW role playing books where the length was not available.

So the smallest capitol ships would essentially be half a meter long. That should put to rest any hopes people had of seeing capitol ship models in the game. They could in theory make them, but they'd be incredibly expensive, hard to store, and would basically offer no tactical decisions during game play given their size and speed.

I could see some of capitol ships being represented via cardboard tiles (stopping your movement on top of a capitol ship, like an asteroid, would be necessary for the rules and game play. So, tile is better than model) for purposes of missions.

I'd be suprised to see anything above fighters in the same scale. Even the M Falcon would be too large for table top gaming if it approximates 12 cm diameter.

If they did stay true to the scale, then we would certanly never see larger class vessels because they would become difficult to store, transport and fit on anything other than custom tables or the floor.

I would presume that above fighter class, they would shift the scale to something like 1/350 and 1/600 so as to be playable and still look reasonably accurate.

I have been looking at your list, thank you by the way, and i was thinking about what ships are more likely than others to be made.
Since the Millenium Falcon is clocking in at about 12.7cm I think its safe to assume that any ship 13cm and under, such as these two;

Moldy Crow EU Dark Empire Corelian HWK-90 (29m) (10.74cm)
Otana YT-2000 light freighter (EU) X-wing alliance (29m)(10.74cm) Azzameen Family

will be used as long as they fit with in the game play. Also if these are in fact labeled medium ships whats large? May be 30 to 50 percent larger than medium. So maybe any thing 20.5cm and smaller would be large, And i think that 16cm to 18 cm is more realistic in regards to play-ability and cost.

I think a lot of answers, to what ships they are going to use, will come when and if they announce any Expanded Universe ships.

Prepare to be surprised then. The Millenium Falcon that's coming out next wave is to scale. Also, I will personally not buy anything that is not to scale, after the great start with being true to the force that they've had, though I'm sure there's people who would.

Food for thought:

I think we'll see 50 to 60 cm ships like the correlian corvette. It can be done, it would be awesome, and what else would constitute a "large base" if the millennium falcon is a medium base?

Glad you're happy...as for me, I have a table that's 56" x 34", so unless it at a game store (none near me) or a convention (once a year), mid size ships won't see any action from me.

Mid-Sized ships should be fine, as they are about 5 inch's long. Plenty of space for them on a 34x56 inch surface

I expect the cards that come with the Falcon to represent a variety of YT- transports and their pilots. I do see the Falcon as the upper limit on reasonable sizes.

Even at this scale, a trench run on the first Deathstar wouldn't fit in most stores, much less someone's basement.

Keep in mind, everyone... this is a dogfighting game... B-52's didn't dogfight!

You could also include the Imperial Star Frigate (Pocket Destroyer). It's a cute little Star Destroyer. I have two different lengths for it, 300 and 350 meters. 350 is probably closer to accurate, as they both have a TIE/Ln next to them for reference. The 350m version has a TIE at 6.3m, while the 300m version has the TIE at 6m.

I guess you are referring to the Imperial II-class frigate, I have added it to the list and a few other. I tried keeping the list to the rebellion era but I reckon it's ok to include a couple of earlier models.

The trench run is certainly doable. You'd need a board (tiles maybe or section of mat) with the trench and death star surface. Say they're 1 foot long each. You put four of these tiles down (you could do more if you had a long table) and as soon as the last ship comes off the final tile, you move that tile to the front and have a continually fluctuating map.

Car Wars did this in certain road chases (place next road section down and remove the final one) and it worked well.

Or you just have a 3x3 trench table, but at the end of the turn you move all ships and turrets "a certain number" of large straight movement templates back, where "a certain number" is the amount you need to move the running X-wing back to get it back to the center of the table (at least a foot away from either edge). Any ships having to move back beyond the edge will have left the battlefield, as per normal rules. Have some rules for when the exhaust port comes up (when the Falcon swoops in) and roll some random trench obstacles and turrets at the start of each turn.
