As far as train games go I have only played Ticket to Ride. Like the idea of building routes and Picking up cargo or passengers but not really into buying stock Any ideas? Light to medium games are fine.

Railway Rivals/Dampfross sounds like it might fit the description.

Railways of the World
+1 Railways of the World. Easy to learn but still has some good strategy involved and sets up different everytime. I find it easy to get non-gamers to play it too.

When asking "What would Jesus do?", remember that flipping over tables and using a whip are within the realm of possibilities.

You could try Steam. You build tracks and then deliver goods. It's more complex than Ticket to Ride but plays quite smoothly. It's a nice game with a fair amount of strategy.

Railways of the World and Empire Builder are both very good games. You could also try something besides trains like Giants or Merchant of Venus.

Slightly off the beaten (railroad) track and a next step up from Ticket to Tide - Canal Mania perhaps?

I think I was actually thinking of Empire Builder, since Dampfross doesn't seem to have cargo contracts. It is very "light to medium" though. I haven't played Railways of the World, but I would say Steam is on the heavy-ish side in terms of playing time and decision weight.

Age of Steam, Steam and Railways of the World are all based on the same system, with Age of Steam being the heaviest, Railways of the World the lightest and Steam somewhere in between. If all you've played is Ticket to Ride then I recomend starting with Railways of the World.
