Hello,
My husband and I are looking for some recommendations for games that are good for two players. It's OK if they are also good for more than two, but we specifically want something we can play together. I like to play Carcassone, but he doesn't like playing that with only two players. I am not a lover of strategy - heavy games (Risk, Dominion, etc.) but enjoy many other types of games. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
Thank you!

Wow...there are so many to choose from. Two games that my wife and I love to play are...

The Castles of Burgundy - it plays very well with 2 and scales to 3-4 equally as well. Well liked by a majority of the BGG community.

Morels - most recent 2-player only game that my wife and I are really liking.

You will get a bunch of recommendations here...so be ready to do some research!

Good luck!

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small seems to fit the bill, and is very fast and not as deep as it's parent game. For if you like that and are ready for deeper gameplay, you can take the plunge and get Agricola.

I also like San Juan, as it plays well with 2P, and the mechanics are very easy to learn and pick up.

Tell your husband that Carc is best with 2! Especially if you add in the expansions.

I would second San Juan and Castles of Burgundy. I would also suggest Innovation, K2, and Walnut Grove. We love all of them with 2, and they are in the light to medium weight of strategy.

Check out Lost Cities and maybe Innovation. Both are relatively inexpensive card games. Lost Cities is on the same level as Carc and plays in about 15 minutes. Innovation is deeper and longer (up to an hour), but the tactical back and forth nature may appeal to you more than Risk or Dominion.

Welcome!

Could you give some more examples of the other types of games that you enjoy? Carcassonne, Risk, and Dominion and all considered to be fairly similar in terms of "weight", so it can be a bit tricky to figure out what you consider to be "strategy heavy".

In the meantime, I can try to suggest a few lighter games that my wife and I enjoy.

Cooperatives:
Flash Point: Fire Rescue
Forbidden Island
Pandemic
Castle Panic

2 player only games:
Lost Cities
Jambo
Hive
For The Win

Games that work well with 2, but can support more:
San Juan
Archaeology: The Card Game
Alhambra
Ticket to Ride
Coloretto
Slide 5
Monopoly Deal Card Game
Qwirkle
FITS

Hope that helps!

I think At The Gates of Loyang could be a good option for you. There is definitely some strategy there, but it is not difficult to understand, also woman usually love it.

It's not a very confrontational game and players are generally left to their own devices to make the most profitable farm they can. I also find it to be a nice game to look at.

Oh and finally it is at it's best when playing with 2 players.

Lost Cities, Haggis, and Battle Line/Schotten Totten are all fun. Pandemic is great if you want to try a cooperative game

My wife and I really enjoy Pastiche with two players. I've played with four and it's fun that way as well.

I have been looking for good 2p games myself to play with my wife! I've tried Jaipur which I think you would like! Also, I have been checking out Biblios which seems like it might be a good fit too!

Happy Gaming!
