Subject: Spawn Zones Shut Down by Survivors? rss

Do you play that Spawn Zones are shut down for that turn if a Survivor is standing on them? We have been so far and just realized it's not in the book anywhere that we can find.

Also, where can I find user missions or characters? Is there a place for such things other than just searching? It's always fun to see what others have come up with.

Long time lurker, Zombicide brought me out of the shadows as a first time poster... ninja

Thanks for any help!

Nope, standing in a spawn zone doesn't affect it in any way, and it's a good way to end up getting killed.

It's just in that one mission that gathering everybody in a spawn zone and clearing it of zombies wins you the mission.

Scenario 4's victory condition is that all surviving characters make it to a zombie spawn zone with no zombies on it, which technically disables the spawn, though it doesn't actually matter since you just won the scenario. Could be that's where you got it from. There's nothing in the vanilla rules that allows you to shut down a spawn, though. It'd have to be in a scenario, or just a house rule.

There's a few in the "Variants" forum right here. There's a couple of very nice-looking ones: Zombicide General Hospital and Diner Dash specifically...

OUCH! Well the game tonight is going to be a bit different... LOL. Tempted to try that darn Mission 1 again... it's sooo hard though.zombie

EDIT: We may have to house rule stopping spawns in for most of the missions, my son loves to "cover this road" for us to keep the spawn card count down, bless his zombie killing cooperative player little heart...

It'd be kind of a game-breaking change to have spawns shut down if a player's on them, really. You'd just send three or four survivors out to capture the spawns right away, and then the rest of the team can just take their time moseying around doing whatever else needs doing. :)

Shutting down a spawn when ALL remaining survivors (but no zombies) are on it, like it technically is in Scenario 4, probably wouldn't affect things too much given that the rest of the map would be busily growing ever-worse while your whole team sits there doing nothing.

I hear ya, we never try to intentionally break games though. Your shut down idea sounds good, we may house rule that it takes two guys/gals back to back to do it "never go alone" style.

It's also in the special rules for #07 Grindhouse:

Zombicide Rulebook wrote:
Neutralizing the Zombie Spawn Zones: a Survivor can neutralize a Spawn Zone in the same Zone as him for the cost of one Action. The Zone must contain no Zombie.

Another suggestion could be something like, you attempt to spawn the zombies and depending on how many survivors are on the spawn reduces what is actually placed.

Example: One survivor on a spawn and two walkers are suppose to be there, only place one.

It would take maybe 2 survivors to override the Fatty, or the Fatty still spawns but without his walkers. Nothing can stop an Abomination.

Working on something like that for my own house rules.
