Hello all,

After play lots of games I started to think about that. What to do with fortunes/luck? I mean, I only left Itens from drops because it makes more sense to drop an item than a fortune from a monster.
Maybe them may be useful for some kind of mission reward than drop. I saw many variants but none got my attention. Maybe some shrines? maybe some tile specific like altar? skip your hero phase praying to get one fortune?

Just let me know about some variants for this.

How about when a Hero rolls a 20 during his/her Hero phase, draw a card from the fortune/luck deck?

Look the idea I had:

I have the game Elder Sign. So I was looking at the custom die it has and I got the idea for some search rules.


In the beggning of your exploration phase roll that custom dice. Each tile can be searched once. I use those time tokens to show wich one was searched or not.

1 and 2 magnifying glass means nothing

3 magnifying glass you found a treasure token (magnifying glass is called investigation in Elder Sign )

Skull and you found an encounter ( Skull is called Peril)

Scroll and you found a Fortune/bless! ( Scroll is called Lore)

If You roll that one that looks like some tentacle you found a monster( that simbol is called Terror)

It works like a charm and the simbols are very logic to those choices! If you dont have those die you can try with a normal d6 but you will miss the flavour

Oo.. interesting idea and I do have Elder Sign. How about this:

1. Tiles with white triangles can be searched once if you did not explore.

2. Roll 2 of those green dices to search. Any magnifying glass result is re-rolled.

3. Only doubles of the following count, ignore any other combination:
- Skull = Encounter
- Scroll = Treasure chest or draw Fortune / Blessing
- Tentacle = Monster on nearest tile with unexplored edge

I think that would adjust the frequency of something happening low enough to keep it exciting.

Edit: can also use your idea to keep the 3 investigation result for treasure tokens. so only 1s and 2s are rerolled.

I tested your suggestion and I think it's not a good option.
If I understood well you have to roll and only when doubles something happens. In two games i got no doubles at all when I searched and found it frustrating.

What about that: Skip you attack to do the search and use only one die. That way is only 2/6 that something will not happen. The heroes aren't Sherlocks but search with no reward are very frustrating.

Did you reroll invalid results? Eg if roll was terror and 1, you would reroll the 1 until you get a 3, terror, lore or peril. So there should be a higher than usual chance for doubles.

Skipping an attack is quite a big sacrifice so I don't see heroes would take the chance especially if something bad might happen, unless it's a requirement of the adventure to find something.. hmm..
