The Williamites decline to take another night march turn as they have their forces in position and want to get the real attack going as soon as possible. They activate Area 07 (Newgrange) and roll a 1. Solms (0 Activation Points) is activated and he crossed the Boyne over the ford to Rossnaree with the Regiment te Voet (1 AP) to attack O'Neill's Dragoons. The Williamites continue to roll badly with;

+3 (Combat 2dr)

+6 (Regiment te Voet Attack Factor)

+2 (Solms Attack Factor)

= 11 Attack Value

They cannot use the artillery in support as it is still night and only one unit can attack acros a ford.

The Jacobites do better

+7 (Combat 2dr)

+4 (O'Neill's CF)

+2 (Attacked across ford)

+1 (Attacked at night)

+2 (TEM of Rossnaree)

= 16

11 < 16 and the Solms and the Regiment te Voet are forced back across the river and are turned 90 dregrees as the have been activated. The Regiment te Voet are also turned to ther fatigued side. Historically O'Neill's Dragoons held the ford against long odds for over an hour, only retreating when their Colonel Sir Neill O'Neill was mortally wounded by a cannonball.

Rebuffed the Williamites could use their initiative for a re-roll, but decide to leave it as Portland and another Regiment te Voet can attack in the next impulse. They still have some AP left in Area 07, 1 (1dr) +1 (Solms DF) and +1 (General of Foot activating only foot and artillery). There is nothing more to do in Area 07, so Solms moves Brandenburg from Area 08 for 2 AP (1 AP +1 AP for activating an unit in an adjacent area).
