...and it's not easy!

No reviews on the Geek or even on Grognard.com, no folder on CSW, very few comments.

So, what's it like? As a person who likes his politics mixed-in with his wargaming, is this game worth it?

I think you'll be hard-pressed to find much info about this game.

This game, along with Minuteman: The Second American Revolution, are sort of "outsiders" when it comes to gamers. This is for several reasons:

1. They've been out of print for over 30 years.
2. They deal with topics that one might generously call "unique"
3. They may have some design issues, which means players will have to deal with house rules or errata

I've not played this game, but have always been intrigued by it. I wish you luck in finding more info - I'll be interested in seeing if anyone can speak of this game first-hand!

I recall some commentary and a Meech Lake variant scenario in a back issue of Canadian Wargamers Journal - I might have this.

It's not really a war game, there is a military war game kind of tacked on but it does not fit with the power politics theme of the rest of the game, not appropriate at all.

My back issues of Canadian Wargamers Journal have been located in my storage locker, and I do beleive the Meech Lake variant is in one of them. As luck would have it, I recieved the right to republish the variant recently from the Canadian Wargamers Group, and if I get my act together I can scan and upload it sometime this month.

As for the game, I experimented playing it solo when I bought it at auction in the 1990s. Not a good solo game. It did have an interesting mechanic for controlling issues and keeping them safe the farther they were from the mainstream - but "crisis" cards kept changing that.

Thanks for uploading the variant!

Yes, this game is not a good choice for solo - like all power-politics games, it is best experienced with multiple players. The mechanics are certainly worthy of further study, though.

Currently soloing this (on vid - see the game entry).
It presents some issues with soloing, over and above what other
power-politics games do for me - mainly my form of 'deal making'
doesn't apply terribly well to this game, as agreements tend
to be specific little deals over time, rather than long-term
alliances. The mechanisms play out okay solo though, but it
devolves into a balance of power game, where it's really hard
to crack the barrier for victory; this is the case even playing
it with others though, I've found.
