On this Friday afternoon I'm feeling some love for my fellow man for absolutely no good reason. And that get's me to thinking how the tribe of gamers stays connected; how often do you see your family-in-taste? How many of them come to dance around the fire in your cave mouth? So... take a crack at some highly scientific questions and let's see what comes of it.

This is impossible to answer without knowing what counts as a gaming group. (At least that's the kind of thing people always post whenever I make a poll.)

It is the custom of our people that no statement go uncritiqued.

I actauly game with three groups, but one is just an offshoot (RPG gaame so it has fewer places) of my games club. Also what do you mmean by conventions, I attend a lot of wargames shows, do they count?

Eric, how do you expect to get published in a peer-reviewed journal without clearly defined questions?

On-topic, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I participate in more groups than the average. I'm betting, though, that I game for less hours/week than average.

If I had peers, perhaps they could pass judgement? I hear several people aspire. And I believe struggling for the unattainable is a laudable goal. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

I almost said I know only 5-10 gamers, but then I realized that I've been gradually discovering people who are gamers (like some of my kids' teachers), so I upped it to 10-20.

How many people do I know who are gamers?

How well do I have to "know" them for it to count?

I based my answer on: we recognize each other and call each other by name (or nickname), have played at least one game together, and are likely to see or communicate with each other at least three or four times a year. Also, I am not counting people who I only know through BGG or other gaming sites/boards (If I didn't restrict myself, the number would be in the hundreds, or even thousands).
