Obviously we're not going to deactivate/reactivate adblock everytime we access BGG. First time I see this kind of attitude on a website, it's a shame this happens on BGG which is otherwise a fine website (like plenty of other websites that don't need to go to this end).

So here's the trick:
use noscript (download and install @ noscript.net)
check: [forbid boardgamegeek]

easy, and no more stupido meeple.

You can deactivate adblock for a specific domain permanently, no need to do something every time you visit.

This is pretty standard, except most sites just ask you to whitelist their ads (a la Ars Technica).

I don't know what Ars says now, nor when they first asked to people who visit their site more than once a quarter, but when I hit their notification it was carefully worded, balanced, and not the all accusatory, in fact they noted that to varying degrees it was hypocritical for them to ask.

Ars, and boardgamegeek.com are as far as I can remember the only two sites in the whitelist. checking... Man, they've made that much harder than the last time I was in that interface, to see who *I* specified as white/black. I got one other site in the whitelist, and it looks like 200 specific avatars/sigblocks in the blacklist.

Add the following adblock rule, which nukes sad meeple and restores the page layout without breaking all scripts on bgg:

Like an image of a sad Meeple, for example. Right click on image, select "Block Image", and Sad Meeple goes away.

Annoying spam images on your pages are about as effective, and as appreciated, as the Viagra offers clogging my email spam folder.
