I wrote a neat little algorithm that selects the top 5 "consensus comments" for any given game. It does so by word frequency and a few other factors. In other words, if a game is regularly described in the comments as "phat" by some and "wicked" by others, a comment containing the phrase "wicked phat" will probably be the top consensus comment. This may or may not make it onto a game/comments page at some point, but in the mean time, can you identify the following games by the consensus comments?

(post your answers in spoiler boxes)
(no fair looking at the game comments to verify your guesses)

Game 1 wrote:

#1: Very good game, but has a lot of rules and takes a long time to play.
#2: Is it me? One of the few games that I really don't want to play ever again.
#3: Played once and enjoyed it very much - if only I had the time to play it more!
#4: Long game with a lot going on...
#5: An excellent way to spend 4 hours or so.

Game 2 wrote:

#1: Best with 5 players, very good with 4 players and good with 3 players...
#2: I should like this one a lot more than I do. A great game, just not that fun for me.
#3: have only played a few games
#4: I love this game!
#5: Too little interaction.

Game 3 wrote:

#1: has the bell with it
#2: too loud
#3: The more players you have, the more fun.
#4: Great party game.
#5: One of those games that has to be played to be appreciated.

Game 4 wrote:

#1: A great dexterity game
#2: A very good game of its type, but I'm not sure I'd want to play it all the time...
#3: Nice dexterity game that is quite impressive visually and also is a lot of fun.
#4: The more I think about it, the more I love this game.
#5: My friends (and their kids) like this better than I do.

Game 5 wrote:

#1: It's fun to play with kids
#2: The kids like it, and they want me to play with them. What can you do?
#3: I liked Cootie only a little bit when I was a kid. It didn't grab me even way back then.
#4: The roll of the dice is so critical. God, this game can last way, way too long.
#5: It's a toy-game that's not really that fun. They seem to have recently redesigned the bugs.

Game 6 wrote:

#1: Fun with chickens.
#2: kids
#3: Has no right to be good, but it is.
#4: Great dexterity game for all ages.
#5: This game is really over-rated. It's not any better than Hungry-Hungry Hippos.

Game 7 wrote:

#1: could have some down time with ponderous players, but otherwise a neat blending of some interesting play options.
#2: Although the board looks like it was designed by a 10 year old, this game plays very well.
#3: Believe I playtested this at The Gathering years ago. So torturous I played in "anarchy" mode.
#4: Elegant, intricate production and networking game. The artwork is? um, eclectic, but the game is top notch.
#5: Difficult decisions the first time out. I think I'd rate it higher if Rudiger Dorn 'tightened it up'.

Game 8 wrote:

#1: Two player fun.
#2: Great to play with my wife.
#3: Simple 2 person game that isn't so much about screwing the other player as building on your own.
#4: Quite simple tile laying. Not much of appeal for me. Too much like solitaire, I need more interaction in games.
#5: Nice little game to play with non gamers. A good one to pull out whn you don't want to have to think too hard.

Game 9 wrote:

#1: One of the best card driven games.
#2: I like this a lot, and would like more opportunities to play than I get.
#3: Excellent gameplay, very clean rules. Together with Hannibal my favorite CDG.
#4: Great game! I like the CDG system that GMT GAMES are putting out.
#5: This game is excellent

Game 10 wrote:

#1: You really have to play this with the right group or it really falls flat.
#2: When playing with people who "get" it, it's an 8, but when playing with people who don't, it's a 5.
#3: Played a long time ago. Not really into card games. Average game. Take it or leave it.
#4: I don't like the main mechanic of lying/bluffing and having to guess if the other person is lying/bluffing.
#5: This can be fantastic with the right crowd, especially with a few beers in you...

Apparently this is harder than I thought. Two people have 4/10 so far. The first several are supposed to be the easy ones and the last several are supposed to be the hard ones. That seems to mostly be the case, except for #1, which is apparently much harder than I expected. There are 3 that noone has gotten yet, but they're all "hard ones".

I'll post answers no later than Monday, but maybe I'll post them before then...

No...they aren't that hard...we're just dumb ...we need some of the crusty old pros who have seen and played 1000+ games to come in and get them all correct.

I read all the comments above, for all those games and I really have no idea for most of them. But I'm pretty sure about this one, going on comment #2 and #4 mostly. (I have no idea what was meant by comment #5) And if I'm completly wrong... well that won't been the first time

Well, here's the answers. At least one person got every one except for #10 which nobody got. Number of correct answers per person ranged from 1 to 6 with alkaiser getting 6 right.

#3 proved easiest and #7 proved hardest of those that anyone got right.

Spoiler (click to reveal)

1. Die Macher (3 correct guessers)
2. Princes of Florence (6 correct guessers)
3. Pit (10 correct guessers)
4. Hamster Rolle (2 correct guessers)
5. Cootie (6 correct guessers)
6. Loopin' Louie (4 correct guessers)
7. Bus (1 correct guesser, and her only guess at that!)
8. Flowerpower (5 correct guessers)
9. Wilderness War (2 correct guessers)
10. Hoax (no correct guessers)

Flower Power is one of the few games that my wife will play regularly with me so it comes out quite a bit. So when the clues pointed to a 2 player tile laying game it was the first thing that came to mind!
