I have just finished re-designing the player boards for Hold the Front Page. The boards will be double-sided, with one side showing the front and back pages of the newspaper; and the other showing the newspaper's centrespread.

Images have been uploaded to the files section and are currently awaiting approval. When uploaded, you will find them here:

Centrespread:

Version 2 of the (prototype) game now supports three different ways of playing (and length of game):

Basic Game = players race to fill the front page with the most valuable stories
Standard Game = players race to fill both the front and back pages with the most valuable stories
Advanced Game = players race to fill the centrespread with the most valuable stories

The Basic Game is mainly a race to be the first to press, because those who fall behind suffer penalty points for any squares left empty on their front page when the game ends. However, the first to finish does not automatically win - bonuses can swing the result. Plays in 60 minutes with any number of players (2-6). This is the 100m sprint!

The Standard Game is a long-distance race with bonus points to be won for completing each page. The first to do so gets more VPs - so you need to watch what others are doing, to make sure they don't beat you to those VPs. Bonuses are even more important in this game as is a sensible selection of story size. Plays in 120-150 minutes with any number of players (2-6). This is the 800m race!

In the Advanced Game, player **must** use at least one story of each of the available sizes (1, 2, 3, 4, and 6). Only 8 squares are available for free-selection of stories. This means that winning will depend even more heavily on getting bonuses. There are no bonus for completing individual pages. This is the 1500m race!

More details will follow and I playtest these boards.
