Jessie had to leave at this juncture, and those of us remaining decided to have a game of Shadows Over Camelot. Robert and I had both played previously, and tried our best to explain the game to Byron and Chris. Knight cards were distributed randomly, with our round table consisting of King Arthur (Robert), who can exchange one white card per turn with another knight; Sir Gawain (Chris), who can draw three rather than two white cards in Camelot; Sir Tristan (Byron), who can move from the Round Table to another location for free; and Sir Kay (Rhonda), who can play an additional white card on a few quests under very limited circumstances that never come up. ;->

Initial game play proceeded smoothly, King Arthur started on the Grail quest, Sir Kay fought off the naughty Black Knight, Sir Tristan acquired Lancelot’s armour, and Sir Gawain, after some struggle, obtained Excalibur. Gawain, through his special ability, was acquiring quite a handful of cards (this must have been Chris’s theme for the night, he had a similar power in Bang), and it was known to the other knights of the table that he had a Grail card that King Arthur desperately needed for his quest. Back up against the wall, Tristan made a spurious accusation against the monarch before being unmasked as the traitor himself, and the loyal knights reeled thinking of all the valuable cards lost in Tristan’s hand and in his discards for Excalibur. Despite this set-back, the loyal knights had made progress towards their goal, and only needed to fight off catapults until enough swords filled the Round Table, which in the end, they did.

Winners: Robert, Byron, Rhonda
Ratings: Byron – 9, Chris – 7, Robert – 9, Rhonda 8.5
