Come to think of it, after you wear them for a month or two, they'd probably smell pretty authentic.

Make them out of plastic, and use British tank designs, and they could be Crocs.

And if you could make a Snuggie that looks like a bunker, you might be onto something...

Looks like Wehrmacht, rather then SS.

Maybe a Marder III?

The Heer had political officers - sort of like commissars, and the function they performed in the Red Army - just as the SS did. Their function was indoctrination and getting German soldiers on-side with the National Socialist program. Not everyone bought into it, but there were very political goals to the invasion of the Soviet Union, and the Heer was very much complicit. Omer Bartov has written about this extensively.

Brief discussion at the Axis History forum here:

One comment (take with grains of salt considering the source):

JPK -

You have the date right - 1 Feb 44 for the start of the program. NSFOs were Nationalsozialistischen Führungsoffiziere (National Socialist Guidance or Indoctrination Officers). The requirement to have them at command and unit level got off to a slow start, but then took off like a scram-jet immediately following the assassination attempt on Hitler on 20 July 1944. By the end of the war just about every unit of battalion size and above had at least one.

I suppose if there was confidence at OKW and OKH that the troops were firmly National Socialist in their beliefs, there would have been no need for the NSFOs to begin with, but there you have it. At any rate, the point is, the Wehrmacht was not in any way the "clean" organization that the Fedorowicz-type histories paint it as being.

Maybe not, but being a member of the Wehrmacht does not equal being a Nazi, where being a member of the SS certainly does.

In fact, it doesn't. The SS conscripted at the end of the war, and party membership was not a prerequisite.

But then again, I wasn't talking about Party membership, and presumed you weren't either.
