Does the host player play all schemes/cash in cards before the next player takes his/her turn and so on?

Do Guard cards on the table count against your hand value?

Also I was wondering are all players dealt their intrigue cards at the same time before the first player starts to play cards or does the first player get three intrigue cards, complete intrigue phase, then the second player starts his turn and gets three intrigue cards?

All players are dealt their cards at the same time. It gives more opportunities for reaction cards to be played.

It may not seem like it, but this is one of the most important rules in the game. I played two game over the last weekend where we each took turns playing one action or scheme and the game took seven hours. This is because veteran gamers will hold back their cards that can sabotage a player making a run at the win. Under these circumstances it is almost impossible to win the game. Each player completing all of his schemes and actions at once should make it a lot easier for someone to pull of the win. BTW The game was awesome even at that length!

In the game demos they ran at SPIEL each player only played or cashed in one card each in turn order until all players passed. This is how I still play the game.
