I wouldn't call myself pro gun bit not anti gun either. I own a revolver, I plan on owning a rifle. I can't see the need for automatic weaponry and wouldn't be against a ban, nor would I campaign for one.

According to the FauxNews watchers at work I am a liberal.

I think the myth of gun-hating liberals is a result of a very vocal small minority who clamor for gun control and fear mongering by a struggling to stay relevant NRA.

Mine is a Colt Single Action Army. .45Long 7 1/2" 'cavalry' barrel. I have it for the history as much as for shooting.

I would probably own a gun now that I can afford one, except my wife is the other kind of liberal. There is no argument that would convince her to even consider it in the abstract. I have tried. She did her residency in the ER and trauma center. Guns and motorcycles are non-starters.

There's always the shooting range, I guess. I know people with multiple firearms who've offered to go with me.

Have you tried something more concrete? Like say going out on a date to a shooting range?

Sounds like it is time for a new wife. devil

OT, took a girl I've been seeing to the range today, first time shooting. Shot my AR(evilz!!) with my 150 round double drum(more evilz!!), though I had only loaded it to 32 to break it in. You wouldn't think it would have taken long to dump, but man it did.

And in the booth next to me, some guy brought two Indians(as in from India) with him, their first time I believe. I always enjoy seeing stuff like that.

I owned a gun while living in Boston's crunchiest lesbian neighborhood, a place where the Socialist Worker Party got second place in the 2008 election at the level of the local voting ward.

Liberal gun lover here.

I don't object to reasonable gun control, though the Brady bill was obviously a little silly, since all it did was make everyone who'd already bought a MAC-10 rich. I dunno, there has to be a better way of keeping the crazies gunless but letting me carry or at least shoot regularly.

There was a photo book released a few years ago regarding self-identified liberals and their personal firearms, with short interviews with each. I remember seeing a preview on Vice Magazine's website, but I'm completely unable to Google a proper link. Gotta go to work, maybe someone else will have success.

Pro gun rights Democrat here as well. Though I did support the ban on assault weapons, and would support a ban on large clip semi-automatic weapons as well.

You know that the assault weapon* ban did not actually ban ownership of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. It only prohibited the manufacture of new ones as of the date the bill was signed into law. All affected weapons and magazines in private hands, in stores and warehouses were still legal to own buy and sell. In the year prior to 1994 enactment, manufacturers ramped up production of the named weapons by 220%. There was a short term bump in retail price caused by speculators but within a year ARs and AKs etc were back to nearly pre-ban prices due to the over production and slowed demand.

If the ban were reinstated tomorrow, the estimated 2.5 to 3 million AR-15 clones and unknown number of civilian versions of AK47s in private hands would be legal to own and sell as would the 100s of thousands in stores and warehouses. If you didn't have one and couldn't find one for sale, you could get a Ruger mini-14 or mini-30 which fire the same caliber of ammunition and are functionally identical but comestically acceptable. These are specifically exempted from the ban in the addendum to the 2008 revision of the Assault Weapon ban.

The same is true of hi-cap mags. All the ones out there would still be out there.

*Assault weapon is a phrase created by Congress to describe weapons that bear a physical resemblance to assault rifles but without the very attribute that would make them one.

I'm fully aware of the circumstances, and that the Assault weapons ban didn't go far enough to actually ban these weapons.

Let's put it this way. I would be in favor of a ban of Assault Weapons and high cap magazines, even retroactively. And this coming from someone that owns 2 AR-15's.

Hunting rifle's and shotguns, and handguns I do not support restriction or bans on (other than clip size)

To clarify. I still supported the previous assault weapons ban as well. I looked at it at the time similar to I look at Health Care. Baby steps. Someday we might be able to get Single Payer health care in this country. But it just wasn't going to be possible this past election cycle. But steps were made in the right direction. When those steps show themselves to be good, perhaps people will take more steps in that direction.
