"I do not read play by forum games at all" but I do watch videos, especially games being played on channels like TableTop and WatchItPlayed, and this does affect my decision to buy a game

I only look at PBF games I'd like to play, usually meaning it's a game I already own or have played and enjoy. Most PBFs of games I don't know very well are confusing to follow, particularly if there's some extra conversation going on.

I'll do that in 2 days so as not to possibly effect the survey in play.

One example of a PBF is the Battlestar Galatica forums.

Because the game deals with hidden loyalties and two competing teams, it can make for very interesting reading. due to some really great work, there are graphic gamestate updates making it easier to follow.

Heres an example of the 5 player game:

+1, although I use the videos just as a help with final decision, I don't base my decisions on them.

I really enjoyed this PBF of Labyrinth : War on Terror. Helped me understand the game a lot more (after I bought it). But whether to buy or not, I usually watch video reviews.

No way Jose. They are filled with so many embedded pictures that my browser slows down considerably or crashes if it's the iPad. I avoid them.

Reading the Play By Forum games of Mage Knight here definitively influenced my decision to buy my copy, although I had already played the game over the board. But for most games, there aren't play by forum games as far as I know, and they consequently don't affect my decision.

Play by email/play by web with email updates has given me a better impression of many games. Conceptually, it's pretty similar to play by forum, and a lot more convenient.
