These questions arose during my last game. Suppose red controls galaxy center and has 5 ships there. Green and blue have 4 ships each nearby and want to hurt red at all costs due to his clear lead. If blue moves all ships in the center, they respectively pin 4 red ships. So far so good. Suppose green now moves in. One ship is clearly pinned. What happens after that? If ships pair up, the remaining ships can move thru into red's less protected territory easily (if asked about the pairing blue would say all his ships pair with red).
Or does everyone have to count pinning against all opponents present?

Is the right answer.

Correct..ALL of Green's ships end up as pinned, and Blue and Green have to fight each other first..the survivors of that fight then get to fight red's ships...

When you move into a hex 1 of your ships get pinned for every enemy there (no matter what the color or ancient, etc.) only exceptions are the center which pins infinite and in the expansion allies. Also if cloaking device makes it in that requires 2 ships to pin each of your ships.

So, to answer your question directly, you'd need more than 9 ships as Green if you'd want to slip them past Red.

Cloaking device? That sounds exciting...I think the expansion is only going to make this more and more better.
