I'm not a big 'skirmish' fan, where two sides just line up and fight. I very much prefer story-based games, i.e. scenarios. I'm glad that the base game came with 3 scenarios, but rather disappointed that none of the expansions came with scenarios. I was hoping there would be one scenario with each expansion, just to keep the game moving.

When (if at all) will new scenarios be put out? Are they coming with the large ship expansions (Falcon/Slave1)? Will there ever be new scenarios?

According to FF site the Slave I will contain a new mission. Totally agreed, new scenarios would increase my interest in the game even more.

Unfortunately FFG doesn't have a good track record of providing free additional content.

I'm hoping they put out a print on demand mission pack or something. We do need more scenarios to keep this interesting.

The opportunity missed here is a scenario with each expansion to highlight the new ship. I'm really quite surprised that there wasn't a simple scenario that took the base game + new ship components. I mean, Lord of the Rings does that, and I kind of like their model (a 'base game' and then subsequent expansions that add scenarios with the new components).

At the very least provide us with art templates and guidelines for crafting our own scenarios

Agreed, scenarios are more fun than lining up and shooting it out.

People have already posted some variant scenarios, so I'm expecting the fan community to help out a lot here.

Plus, this game has a ton of easy fan-made custom scenarios. In their first instantiations they may not always be perfectly balanced, but hey, war is rarely fair.

Here's my first attempt:

I totally agree with the O.P. Skirmish games are a great way to learn a system, but the shine comes off the apple pretty quickly.
I haven't gone any farther than a few ideas for scenarios, and haven't play tested them, but here is one my thoughts.

1)Bombing Run. Cut out a 1/4 circle from a sheet of paper or print out a blown up picture of a pretty planet and 1/4 that, placing it in one corner of the play area. The defenders set up within range 1 of the planet, and the attackers set up at range 1 from the corner opposite the planet. The attackers designate one of their ships as the "Bomber" and any others as escorts.
The bomber must make it's way across the play area and have it's base touch the planet. At this point, the Bombing ship cannot participate in combat or be attacked. The only actions it may take on it's turn is to target lock and bomb the target. (I was thinking of giving the target shields 3 and hull 6 and have it roll 2 defense dice.)
The round after the target is destroyed, the bombing ship may act normally as it attempts to return to it's starting corner.
Victory condition:The Bomber must destroy the target and return to within range 2 of of it's starting corner.
