Hi all,

I'm looking for a two player co-op (or vs. but pref co-op). I love the look of arkham etc, but it would be wayyyyyyyyy too complex. even elder sign im afraid is too complex, as is the lotr board game (I know to most, these will sound easy games to learn, but my partner is a non-gamer, and dyslexic, so things need to be super easy to "get").

criteria:

* Very easy to learn - the biggest point here by far...
* No 6 or 7 step turns
* In my mind I have a serious fantasy style theme, but am open to theme. nothing 'cutesy' though
* See first point! ;-)

Thanks guys

What about Forbidden Islandnot fantasy but easy and co-op. Very pretty game, and cheap to pick up.

Try these out:

Forbidden Island - Super easy.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue - Super easy (to learn). Super fun.

Ghost Stories - Super easy to learn, super difficult to win.

Hanabi - Creating fireworks. Might go against your 'cutesy' thing.

Defenders of the Realm - Fits your fantasy theme requirement.

Yggdrasil - Kind of like Ghost Stories. Norse God themed. Difficult.

Shadowrift - Deckbuilding Co-op.

Sentinels of the Multiverse - Superhero Themed Co-op.

Pandemic - Save the world from disease. (plays similar to defenders)

Some of those may be too difficult for you, but check them out and decide for yourself!

Sorry, I should have checked what you have...how does she do with Forbidden Island? If that is too easy you could always go with the more advanced Pandemic.

How about:

Wok Star
Sentinels of the Multiverse (not sure if it would have too much text for her)
Castle Panic

I have to say -1 to Ghost Stories I own this and think it is a fabulous game, but a lot of people get put off by its difficulty. I would not recommend it to non gamer types.

Knizia's Lord of the Rings is accessible to everyone. To be honest, there is no co-op that I would not consider a gateway game.

After a few plays I think Zombicide is a no-fail.

If you take care of the zombie movement phase this game is easy to learn. SUPER thematic.

I recommend Flash Point: Fire Rescue over Zombicide. Between the ambiguity and the fact that games can run hours, there're plenty of reasons the latter could fail.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue, you won't be disappointed. Still think Pandemic is a better strategy game though.

I also disagree with Ghost Stories.

I have Pandemic,I was wondering about Flash Point. Is it almost the same game as Pandemic just a different theme? In other words if I have Pandemic "and happy with it" is there any reason that I should get Flash Point as well,or too much of the same?

I don't play to win - I play for enjoyment and social interaction.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue is definitely a different game to Pandemic - although, all co-ops by their nature tend to have a similar feel. It's much more thematic and probably easier for non-gamers to comprehend.
