Subject: End of Round/Season trigger order? rss

How do you decide the order that end of round and/or season actions take effect? The order is largely irrelevant but situations can arise where the order in which these triggers happen effect crystal counts. Here is an example of the trigger order being very relevant:

Player 1: Has 1 Crystal and a Damned Soul of Onys in play.
Player 2: Has a Titus Deepgaze in play.
Player 3: Has a Figrim the Avaricious in play.

For this example we will say that Player 1 had first action on this turn and Player 3 has just ended there turn ending the round as well as changing the season. Player 2 is about to gain priority and dice selection. So you would guess either Player 1 or Player 2 would have there cards trigger first in this example but I am not certain.

If Player 1's Damned Soul of Onys triggers first it would knock Player 1s life total to 0 thus Figrim would not steal the 1 crystal from player 1. It would also then force Titus Deepgaze to be sacrificed after all the actions.
If Player 2's Titus Deepgaze triggers first he would gain 1 extra crystal upon stealing the crystal and thus would not have to sacrifice Titus at the end of this turn.
If Player 3's Figrim activates first he would gain that extra crystal and Titus again would be forced to the discard pile following the turn.

So again when a turn ends how do you clarify which end of the turn/seasons actions happen first?

Warlord beats Troll, Troll beats Elf, Elf beats Water Sprite, and basically everything else beats Enchanted Bunny.

After the last player chooses a die and performs their actions, we resolve the end of round activations first in player order. Player order is based on the order of the round that was just finished.

Next, we move the season token based on the number of pips on the last die. If there is a change of seasons, we resolve the end of season activations in player order.

This made the most sense to us, and appears to be in line with the rules.

We have decided that if player is terget of multiple effects, that player decides and there was no further problems (there would be, if we choose "attacking" player to decide).

That would have made a difference in our last game. One player had two Wondrous Chests out with 3 energy and the Hourglass of Time. We ruled that end of round and season change occurred simultaneously and and each player could resolve in the order they chose so he got the energy first and then 6 crystals. Had the Wondrous Chests been forced to resolve first he would have been six short and I would have won by 4.

While there may be other ambiguities, the rule book is VERY clear that you complete the round BEFORE moving the die along the season track - therefore End of Round effects always occur before End of Season. As for multiple effects taking place in a particular order - say one player has multiple cards that occur at the end of a Season - I'd allow the owner of said cards to determine in which order they take place - unless or until we hear otherwise from an official source.
