Do you have to have an enemy pilot in your range to be able to "take a shot" to get rid of blinded pilot? Or can I run away for a turn to get rid of it?

I'm reading page 10 of the rulebook.

"each ship may perform one attack against one enemy ship that is inside its firing arc and within range."

I interpret that this way. In order to attack, you must meet these criteria:

-enemy inside firing arc
-within range

The blinded pilot card says "The next time you attack"

I don't think you can attack anything unless you have those 2 requirements, so no running away will help. you just have to push through it and get an attack in knowing you're not able to roll on it.

Thematically, the pilot is still trying to hit an enemy, but they just haven't gotten the bright laser flash out of their eyes yet. It's only been seconds since they took that critical hit, so it makes sense to me.

Definitely yes. If it was just not attack on your next turn it would be incredibly weak.
