The European Munitions chit is on the Morale Track. The event card calls for the Confederates to Battle on a Union Track where it is impossible to drive back the Union Army. For example, the Union Army is on an Advanced Base.

In this circumstance, is the player obligated to conduct the "pointless" battle to determine if the result is a tie? Clearly, all tie results are significant for the advance of the European Munitions chit. Or can the player actually forgo the Battle roll and not worry about any tie results?

1. Based on the answer to my similar question, I'd say you have to go through with the battle (Maybe a magazine blows up).
2. Who knew it was important to have Minie balls that actually spoke French?

Mr Heldt is correct, you fighyt the battle if directed by the card. However some theaters have more than one opponent you can pick from.

If there's an initiative marker on the army a winning battle would at least remove that, right?

Absolutely, that's not a "pointless" battle.
