4e had some great ideas, but I think it went a little too far trying to enter the boardgaming sphere, where I think it tipped over the edge into irrelevancy. Hopefully they learned some lessons, and 5th edition returns to a balanced mixture of new and old.

You're killing me with this.

They brought Monte Cook back on-board and put him in charge of D&D Next, working alongside Mike Mearls. Was there any doubt at that point that we'd see anything other than a return to 3.x?
