Wow. That was. . . profound, and at the same time, I'm not entirely sure what just happened. Very impressive. I wouldn't mind seeing that as a full length movie.

From what I understand, it was made (or at least the FX) were made entirely with Blender (www.blender.org): a open source/free 3D software package.

Pretty amazing.

It's the 4th made in a series (of Blender shorts, not of that movie). I haven't watched the other three.

The first was an abstract film and (IMO) pretty hard to follow.
Big Buck Bunny was pretty funny and looked really nice.
Sintel looked great and wasn't bad at all.

For tech demos, they're looking pretty great.

The title makes me think of the myth of Orpheus & Eurydice...

Drew iron tears down Pluto's cheek,
and made Hell grant what Love did seek.

I assume that is what the development team was hoping to convey.

'Blender' is a 3d modelling program - by and large freely available, but tremendously opaque to use. Lots of competitors to it that are more traditionally used for 3d studio animation (3DsMax, Maya, etc) - also very, very expensive, though.

So I'm sure the dev team likes to try to showcase the cool things that CAN be done with it in an effort to try to make it more mainstream.
