Normally, players pass their white cards to the Card Czar, who shuffles them up and reads them randomly. But with "pick 2" cards, each player submits two white cards, which must remain together and in order, so they can't be shuffled. The rules suggest using a paperclip "if the Card Czar has lobster claws for hands," which makes it sound like the paperclip is optional. So is there another way of handling the white cards for a "pick 2" round?

I just put the first one on the bottom and hand them over. We're pretty unbiased so it doesn't really matter if the Czar knows who is who.

I usually have the Czar cover or close their eyes until everyone has put their pairs onto the table.

We also have the Card Czar close their eyes and place them randomly in front of them with the first card they read on the bottom.

Every now and then someone places them in the wrong order and it makes for a funny reading.

You can still more or less shuffle keeping pairs of cards undisturbed. It should be easy to collect up everyone's 2-card submission facedown, and then in your hand, cut an even cards from the top to the bottom or from the bottom to the top several times.

Edit: just make sure everyone is clear on whether the first card to be read goes on the top or the bottom.

We keep small envelopes handy, the two cards are placed inside, in the correct order, then the envelopes are shuffled.
