I'll be in China (specifically Xi'An) for much of October and November visiting family. I lived there from '03-'06, but there weren't many games around then. I'll probably pick up a copy of San Guo Sha, but is there anything else that's worth grabbing?

Thanks!

XianQi - very popular Chinese chess! Though, if you've lived there for a couple of years, you've probably seen/heard about it before

This game might be good.

Also, San Guo Sha has been released in English and is available online in case you're interested.

You can see some of the available games in this thread but sadly most of them are bootlegs / knockoffs of other games.

I just saw a chinese copy of Puerto Rico. You could tell since the goods and colonists were all in plastic!

Funny story: My first time in China I bought a fake Rolex for my dad. They are pretty hard to find these days (due to it being a very high-profile brand - less famous brands are easier to come by). Ended up finding one in a bazaar in Xining for about $15.

Already have a nice copy of XiangQi and MaJiang. I'm trying to avoid knockoff fakes; I guess I'm asking if there are any original games worth grabbing. No English isn't a problem.

When I lived in Shanghai, I wasn't too far from Xiangyang Market (some Googling shows that it closed in 2006! Oh noes!), which was the epicenter for fake goods in the city. The guys on the street would assault me as I passed by: (in mumbled tones) "Watch? Bag? Watch? Bag? ... DVD?"

There are no good original games. But 铁老大 is a reasonable Ticket To Ride knock off, set in China, of course.

The Chinese (authorised) version of Battle line is nice, attractive art - anime type soldiers and metal soldier flag counters.

When I go to Shanghai I use TaoBao to command the games I wish to have, less trouble and shipped to my house.

Games done in china besides San Guo Sha:

Kaiten Sushi
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.0.101.88a0f8&scm=...=

福神 Fu Shen(you need chinese knowledge for this one)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.17.11.e1f3ca&id=...

Chef Masters (dunno if it's good or not)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.0.141.4fa669&scm=...=

Chronicles of DragonWing (orginal game ?? Dunno, I would like to try it, but it seems very language dependent)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.4.2.cc75d7&id=137...

Mystery?? (I don't even know the chinese nor english name for this one)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.13.2.46c79b&id=14...

Flea Market (original ??)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.1.3.2.67c0ed&id=14...

The Message (you need card translations to play)
---can't find the taobao link, sorry

Those are original chinese games besides San Guo, you can also buy out of print copies. I got Chinatown(OOP) and Manila(OOP) as I would be unable to get the originals. there is also several games that I'm very unsure if they are originals or knock off ...

Plants vs Zombies (Nice Battleline clone)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10221839957&ali_trackid=2:mm_14507416_2297358_8935934:1349204302_4k5_499297897

Roma (no idea if this original or not)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.17.10.60f342&id=...

Maritime Silk Road (a game by reiner knizia?? really, I haven't never seen the US version?? what's this?? )
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.10.60.74fc9&id=1...

Anyway, Chinese boardgaming is in expansion and while many chinese do only cheap copies and knockoff you can see more and more original games from chinese market.
