Time when I start thinking about getting 50,000 words out of my head and onto a page in the 30 days of November. And telling lots of people that I'm doing this seems a great way to help ensure I don't quit halfway through. This will be my 5th NaNoWriMo, and with the previous 4 being "wins", I guess I have been doing something right.

I hope you will join me on this ludicrous undertaking. It really is far more fun than it sounds. Check out the newly revamped website, think of all the reasons you have not to write this year, then decide to do it anyway. (Don't forget to tell lots of people . . .)

For my 5th NaNo, I'm trying desperately to talk myself out of setting my entire novel in a single room. Pretty sure I'm too stubborn to listen to reason.

Is it November yet?

To make it believeable, I hope that it's the bathroom. 50,000 words from a guy sitting on the toilet.
Wait... what's that website again?

A story about a constipated man questioning every single life choice that has led him to this moment of pain, torment and heavy clenching? I would read that. Constipated: Tales of a Wasted Life.

Edit: Thomas could feel the sweet running down his temple as the next wave of cramping hit him like a sword to the belly. He was suddenly four years old again. He was in his parent's kitchen wearing his favorite Superman t-shirt. Christopher Reeves looked on with silent approval as he discovered for the first time, the joy of cheese...

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

I'm not running BOB this year. If anyone wants to take it over, be my guest.

I hope not—else it would have to be in the toilet. Unless the OP is really disgusting.

Then thou hast loosed the shackles of a world which doth lack in burritos, and thy plate runneth over with the drippings and fillings of this, thy holiest of foods. Amen.

Every time I hear someone say "It's that time again...", which is usually on television, and not that often, I hear Wacko in my head saying "Time to make bubbles with our spit?"

It's kinda tragic, really...

Back on topic, I was actually thinking about NaNoWriMo, the other night at work.

Came up with an interesting (to me, at any rate) idea for a story too...

Well, technically, the plot came to me first, which is what made me think of NaNo, but it washes out to the same thing.

So, almost two weeks into planning, all I've got so far is:

Two people in a room.
One of them looks out the window and sees modern day New York.
The other sees 90s era Brighton.
They might be a couple. (On the other hand, they might both be me.)

Not much to go on, but far more than I had at this point in 2009 or 2011 . . .

Hoping to flesh it out far more over the next 20 days. Who are these people in the room? Why are they in the room? Why do they see what they see? What is going to actually, you know, *happen* over the course of 100+ pages?

Off to NY ComicCon now, and for the next 4 days, so that plotting may have to wait a little longer . . .

Here's my 20 Word Synopsis:

Tough going this year - between Sandy the election and my first sick days in a decade early in the month, I've never fallen so far behind the pace sand genuinely considered quitting.

Part of it was the lack of a community here at BGG joining in - used to be lots of fun banter, but I felt like I was on my own this year. Thankfully, by week 3 I found the time and the drive to go to the in person NYC write-ins and was inspired past 50k for the 5th straight year . . .

Lessons learned:

- I need to write every day. I got away with skipping a few last year, but fell so far back this year that there was nearly no coming back.

- I also need to stop with the grand conceits and just sketch out a solid *story* next October.

- Attend more write-ins! There's something about sitting in a room with others - one or dozens - that is inspiring.

Hope some of you will join me in November 2013.

Just acknowledging that in past years there were a lot of BGGers / Chit Chatters doing NaNo, and the daily back and forth in the threads was helpful in keeping me on track.

This year people had other priorities - believe me, I get it - and BGG wasn't such a social hub. I found other support groups as the month wore on, and I won't rely on BGG in that capacity going forward . . .
