When the category of "Modern Opera" came up, my wife and I both immediately started yelling "Nixon in China! Nixon in China!" Is there any other modern opera that anyone has heard of?

When "Modern Opera" came up we were both like "Damn. Poor Eric." And I was thinking the only Modern Operas I could even remember were Satyagraha and Nixon in China so I'd totally bag that category.

When the question came up I was like "ubelievable!" Then I was screaming it at the tv (Mary's response: "they made an opera of that?") but we both agreed from the look on your face that there was no way you knew the answer.

When they revealed your answer I screamed like a little girl. Just so you know. Good job!

... but now I have to try to rush home again tomorrow.

Two awesome moments at the end.

- Seeing the relief on Erik's face when he knew he had the right answer.

- Then seeing the challenger. I turned to my wife and screamed, "SHE DOESN'T KNOW THE ANSWER! SHE DIDN'T EVEN GUESS! ERIK WON!"

Wow, that was thrilling!

Oh, BTW, I would have said firewood, too.

I was totally telling my wife, "But cordwood _IS_ firewood! They're going to have to come back and apologize!"

And then, they did.

I dedicate this question to Chit Chat:

Oh, and how did I know Nixon in China? I read about it in a magazine 3 days before on the airplane. No joke. Greatest stroke of luck in my life.

I have to say watching Jeopardy when you are actually routing for someone is a totally different experience. On the occasions when you'd miss a high value question, I'd wince. When your competition got one wrong we'd cheer. The fact that your scores were so close probably helped ramp up the excitement levels, but that was seriously the most fun I've ever had watching Jeopardy.

Did Alex actually make fun of your one answer about Queen Elizabeth?

Yes he did, but I laughed to. I just threw phrenology out there to see if it would stick. To my credit, Gola totally backs me up on that response.

I didn't say it was a good answer, it was just the first thing that popped into my head.

And, the sequel is up.

Well, you still won about $22,400 more than I ever expect to. (And about $20,000 more than my Dad did on 'Wheel of Fortune' some 20 years ago.)

Awesome job!

My wife and I now, officially, know you as "The really tall dude, who beat the giggling lady."

I don't know if you saw it, but Sara was on a laughing jag, at the end of her first match, and apparently couldn't stop.

So cool to see someone I know on that show I love. Good job on your win!

I did the same thing.

My wife and I always guess at least one answer for each category, as they are revealed. About 2/3 of the time, they come up.

...and "Nixon in China" is the only 'modern opera' I've heard of too.

Out of curiosity, what was the magazine you read about it in, Erik? There was a bit at the back of TIME, not long ago...
