Other than deduction games like Mystery of the Abbey and In the Name of the Rose, are there any other games about monks? I'm looking for any mechanic or genre, such as farming games, set collection card games, building games, etc. As long as it takes place in the abbey/monastery and deals with the monks themselves in some way. Thanks!

Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas - A race game with acolytes searching for holy books. Kinda like RoboRally in reverse (instead of the cards moving the players, the cards move the walkways). It does have a fantastic element to it (floating walkways over the "sinners' pit").

And a second vote for Ora et Labora

In De Vulgari Eloquentia you start out as a merchant, can become a friar, then a monk or a cardinal or, even, the Pope.

there's monkfish in If Wishes Were Fishes!, tho it doesn't take place in a monastery. There's also a Carcassonne expansion entitled Carcassonne: Expansion 5 – Abbey & Mayor.

Thanks for all the replies, love this community.

Allow me to clarify exactly what I'm looking for. I've always like the idea of becoming a monk, leadig a quiet life, working in the garden, brewing beer and wine, and spending time in the library learning and reading. Now I'm obvi not about to throw away my life for a worship filled, sexless life. But I thought that since board gaming is my hobby (passion) I would just play a game about it. And I know there are games about farming, cathedral building and making wine, but none that I know of with monks doing all the work. Maybe Ora and Labora is what I'm looking for, I'm not sure. I skimmed the comments and description and can't find anything definite about the theme.

So, is my monk alter ego game out there somewhere, or do I have to design it myself?

Well, in Biblios each player represents a monk trying to accumulate the best books for their monastery's library. The theme is a bit tacked on (although the game is great).

There's also Scripts and Scribes: The Dice Game, although I haven't played it so don't know if it fits the theme.

I'm sorry, I love Biblios but at no point in that game do I ever feel like I'm channeling my inner monk (maybe my inner stamp collector).

Scripts and scribes is just Biblios with dice.

Ora et Labora is the droid you're looking for.

Ok then. As it happens a friend of mine just got Ora et Labora, so I hope to be playing it soon. I'll also keep an eye out for Monastery, as it too looks pretty interesting.

Thanks again!
