I'm considering buying some reinforcement packs, but I'm concerned that they will be a pain to separate from the basic cards when I just want to play a baseline game or introduce new players. Do the reinforcement cards have any distinguishing symbols on their front to tell them apart from the base set cards?

I don't think so, but they are really easy to sort out. You know what the three commons are from the setup, so you just need to remember the 3 champions. Can't take more than 2 minutes.

Also I think teaching to new players with the reinforcements isn't a problem.

Yeah, except that for playing one's first game, you probably don't want to be presented with the whole deck-configuring mechanic. So if you've got a deck you've built using reinforcements or mercs, I don't think it would be a problem to teach a new player based on that. But expecting a new player to actually construct their own deck before play is probably asking too much.
