Cubicup is a very simple two player game of stacking cubes to create a pyramid. Each player takes a turn to place a cube on the game board. The player placing the final cube, the apex of the pyramid, wins unless the opponent owns all the cubes below this final cube, in which case the game is a draw.

You can see straight off that the second player would always play the last cube and win. However, this situation can be turned around if a player creates a "cup", which is three cubes of their own colour which form a cup into which their opponent must place their next cube. Not only must the opponent play this position they must then take their own turn. The game then flips in favour of the player who created the cup as they now have one more cube and will end up playing the last cube. As the game progresses and each player creates their own cups this situation will reverse time and again.

Essentially the game boils down to observation and hoping that your opponent misses your attempts to cup them. There are a few opening gambits you can make to ensure a cup will be formed, but this will only fool a novice player. Once the building starts climbing there is little opportunity to look ahead and attempt to set yourself up to make cups, but once again, only novice players tend to get caught out by these attempts.

Overall this is a fun game, which plays very quickly. A great filler for people who are waiting to join the main game or a nice introduction to games for people who don't normally play or younger players.
