Hello,

I put together a version of Carcassonne in wood -- maple for the tiles, cherry for the elements.

After the end of the original game, players can build "trade networks" of elevated roads above the primary game level. Once players connect a given number of cities, they earn points based on the size of each city in the network multiplied by the number of cities connected. So connecting two large cities is as viable a strategy as connecting many small cities.

When players connect an elevated road to an road intersection on the "ground" level, they can claim the ground level road as their own, and thus connect distant cities by a succession of ground and second level connections.

Sorry this photo is from the unfinished wood pieces, so they don't look as beautiful, but they give an idea of the concept.

Thanks for reading.

Andy

I love this.

How does drawing tiles work? I imagine you can't draw them from a bag, because you just can feel for what you need.

It's gorqeous; nice work.

One possible soultion could be having a set of standard tiles to draw, then take wooden one to place on the table.

I see a cathedral. How does the inn look like?

Hi Jacob,

For drawing pieces, sometimes we use the tower holder thing from the Towers expansion, but more often we just put them all face down in a box, and players pick one from the top without looking at it directly. Not perfect, but it works all right.

Facedown in the box seems like a good solution. Very nice work.

This is really, really lovely.

My grandfather trained as a carpenter and my father has his apprentice training piece which was an inlaid cabinet with loads of different woods. Seeing this fabulous 3D version makes me think what a wonderful training piece an inlaid wooden Carcassonne set would be!

Wow, that's just awesome!

And am I the only one who thinks that it's way easier to spot distinct areas for peasants with that design?
