So I was able to get lots of d10s for the game. However I would like to paint them with nail polish but I am afraid of biasing the results.

Does any one have any suggestions?

Thanks

Bias your opponents' dice low and yours high. And don't forget which is which!

If you only paint in the numbers it shouldn't skew anything. Color the whole thing and who knows how it'll roll. Also, hitting the table is going to chink the polish off fairly fast.

It would but I use a foam lined dice tower.

In addition I am afraid that by painting just the numbers I will inadvertently create a bulge of polish on the seemingly flat surface.

I would not do it at all (paint the dice). It took me quite awhile, a couple of years, but I have collected a player-colored set of [10] d10 dice for every original player color in the TI3-SE-SotT game, and my custom players colors as well (white, brown, light green, light blue).

"Painted = Tainted" when it comes to dice, I recommend just getting different colored dice.

I bought 5 d10s of each of the 8 colors from Chessex for $25. Well worth it in my opinion.

If you have a d10 to spare and don't mind repetitive tasks I would suggest the following.

Take d10, roll it 200 times (recording results)

Paint that d10, roll it another 200 times (again recording results).

For a fair die I think you expect to get each number 20 +/- 8 times, where the 8 is from \sqrt{200 * 9/100}

If you have a lot of time you could do more like 2000 rolls.

It is unfortunate that TI3 uses d10 instead of d6...

Why is it unfortunate? D10 provides a lot more flexibility of results than D6 does.

Ya!...d10 is the way to go, don't understand the argument against it...I play other wargames with d12's, and those are excellent as well.

Chances of:

16.666% chance to roll some single number (d6)

or 10% chance to roll some single number (d10)

The real question is:
Is that extra 6.66% worth it?

Since you aren't losing anything by using d10 over d6, sure, it's worth it. Higher flexibility, with no drawbacks; I don't see the problem.

Over a span of time, that extra 6.66% adds up rather significantly. The combat penalty of the Jol-Nar is very noticeable, and if d6 was used, it would be hard to use the same -1 penalty (or the N'orr +1 bonus) without making the effects FAR more dramatic.

So yes, it's worth it, and largely because I don't see a downside to D10 over D6.

I can see coloring in the numbers, but why would you color the entire die? Just order whatever color you want straight from Chessex.

As d12 cry themselves to sleep every night since no non-barbarian class uses them anyway, i can only say i support whatever wargame that would be! [ad&d nerd mode off]

Sorry to further derail this topic, but I am very fond of d12s too! I've been looking for games that primarily use d12s! Suggestions?

I didn't mean my d10 vs d6 remark to be taken seriously.

What I meant was that you would be able to tell if painting had weighted the die with fewer throws if the die had fewer faces.

In my defense, my "seriousitometer" has never worked right; thus, I assume everything is serious unless stated otherwise
