Is it April 1st? Can it be true? Eagle Games is going to release Puerto Rico the PC game ... before Christmas? Looks that way: http://eaglegames.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=6086

The text:

Puerto Rico: The PC Game arrives for the holidays!
THE HIGHEST RATED GAME OF ALL TIME IS NOW ON THE PC

Plainfield, IL - Eagle Games (http://www.eaglegames.net) today announced that Puerto Rico, the highest rated game of all time*, will be coming to the PC just in time for the holidays. Puerto Rico has set the standard for the modern boardgame and now with Puerto Rico: The PC Game you can play it anytime and with people anywhere.

50 years after Columbus discovered the New World, the island colony of Puerto Rico began to blossom. In Puerto Rico, the players will take on the roles of Prospector, Governor, Settler, Trader, Merchant, Builder, and Craftsman attempting to build the new colony while building their own wealth and reputation. Since its publication, the boardgame Puerto Rico has attracted a passionate following of fans and won countless awards. Now, with Puerto Rico: The PC Game, fans can play solo or against friends online. When playing against the computer, you can set each player’s ability level. You control the speed of the computer turns, so you can play as fast or as slow as you want.

Game Features:

* Gamemeplay for 1 to 5 players
* Solo play versus up to 4 computer players, each can be set to its own ability level
* 3 levels of artificial intelligence (Beginner, Amateur and Professional)
* Multiplayer via hot seat, LAN or internet
* Includes the expansion set (new buildings) for even more replayability
* 3-D or 2-D gameplay (you can take a virtual tour of your 3-D colony!)
* Easy to follow tutorials and mouse over guides
* In-game save feature (you can save a game in progress)

Puerto Rico: The PC Game arrives this holiday season and is developed by Dartmoor Softworks, published by Eagle Games and copyright Ravensburger.

* As rated on the game website BoardGameGeek (http://www.boardgamegeek.com). BoardGameGeek is not affiliated with Eagle Games, Dartmoor Softworks or Ravensburger.

Looks likely, Dartmoor has already made some other boardgame ports to the PC http://www.dartmoorsoft.com/pn/html/index.php

They probably were well underway with Puerto Rico and Eagle Games just came along and set up a distributing deal for an english version.

I think it was running on a laptop in the registration room. I had a look at it, but didn't play at all. Looked great.

"Looks really nice" was the ONLY good thing that you could say of their PC version of E&T. When there are already some easy to use PR games out there - and at least one with killer AI - it'll be interesting to see what they do with PR.

And this should be out at the same time than the computergame. Now new scheduled for 2006.

The America Expansion for "War ! Age of Imperialism" is cancelled.

I believe only what I see, when it is from Eagle Games !

At first it would be nice, if they had "real" rules for their games.

Maybe except Railroad Tycoon, they seem to work.

They're over on the Puerto Rico page, hidden in the file section (you have to click on "browse all files").

The one (and I have no idea if there are others),

is the one written for excel, using the excel VBA macro language (i believe). So the install is nothing more than loading up an Excel spreadsheet (nice for those of us with locked down work p.c.s :-) ), enabling the macros, and playing. I have no idea how good the AI is, but I find it pretty challenging. And you can whip through a game in 15-30 minutes for that quick PR fix.

hth,
jeff

You might want to take a look at my geeklist which list the various PC Puerto Rico versions with screen shots. There are four different version on my list.

The killer AI is a actually a MS Excel spread sheet macro.
