I will probably take the rules to Rocketman and revise them, but I'm looking for a somewhat light (think pirates of the spanish main) space fleet battle rules that might work well with small ships made from Legos. My kids make lego space ships all the time anyway, and the modularity would make it easy to pull off armor, etc. as we blew each other apart. I'm thinking Canvas Eagles--in space!

As long as Canvas Eagles is your standard, I would recommend Full Thrust. Which allows you to build ships to be as simple or complex as you want them to be.

Thanks, I had forgotten about full thrust. I may make a "full thrust lite" for use with the kids and legos.

Here are some minimalist aerial combat rules from a now-defunct site that could easily be adapted to Lego fleet battles:

The "minimal space combat" rules by Timothy Swenson (1996) look very promising and elegant.

MSC is the way to go for introducing kids to space gaming--my 6-year old loves these rules!

After that,Full Thrust should not be too hard for them to learn, but just start small (small ships, beams only.)

Check my FT pages out for some free Trek counters and scenarios:

Whatever you choose,have fun!
