A quick little exercise:

Look through the BGG Top 100.

Then count how many games you have in your collection, excluding expansions.

If you have fewer than 100 games, divide the number of games in the top 100 you own by the number of games you own, to get a percentage, and fill out this poll:

Poll
What percentage of your collection is made up from the BGG top 100? (Only for those owning fewer than 100 games.)

Comments welcome, particularly from those with a very high or very low percentage.

Games I currently own clocks in at around 40%. Games I have ever owned probably clocks in closer to 80%.

I'm not aligned enough with the top 100 to ever hit those
kinds of numbers.

I'm guessing I have about 40% of the top 100. I didn't feel like counting. Maybe a smidge more. It was more than that, but I got rid of some and newer games came in that shoved some that I had, out.

Okay, I got unlazy and counted. I have 35 currently. I have had a lot more pass through my hands...probably another 35.

Currently, I sit at 3%, which amounts to 2 games Ticket to Ride & Ticket to Ride: Europe.

If I counted all the games I have ever owned in the top 100, it comes out to around 19%.

I'm not much of a crowd follower.

I own 4 of the 100... but I USED to own many more. I think part of it is picking a game up, introducing it to a bunch of people who then bought it, then making my copy trade bait since I didn't NEED to own it since i could play it at a friend's house. I keep them if I can't part with it because I love it that much, ot because my wife and I sometimes have tastes that our other gamer friends don't share.

I feel the nature of the Top Ranked BGG games has evolved. Years ago, the Top 100 was vetted by the small base of rabid players that frequented this site. Lots had probably played the majority of top titles. It used to reflect a "connoisseur ranking".

The popularity of the site has grown beyond anyone's hopes, and the character of the Top Games is now a "popularity contest". I see this largely the result of Fantasy Flight growing the pool of gamers. And that's a good thing for the hobby overall!

For better or worse, the direction has tilted towards more thematic games, as they edge out strategy and family games. Old faves like Acquire and Taj Mahal are out of the Top 100!

I'd rank it slightly below Monopoly. :D

I own 1 game (Go) from the top 100, out of 49 (well, actually 50+, 'cos there's a couple of things I haven't got listed in my BGG collection, like MtG, and the original Netrunner CCG) owned games.

Yet you are aligned enough
to have the second-highest
percentage of the top 100

I currently own 61 unique games, not counting expansions. Of those, 4 are in the top 100, which puts me at 6.5%.

(15 more of those top 100 games are games that I previously owned and have subsequently sold.)

so after some quick math 25% of my games are in top 100

Among my 431 games, there are 5 which are in the top 100 (one previously owned). I would get rid of carcassonne, too, but the box is badly battered and probably rather hard to sell.

Edit: Then again, I have about eight different editions of Tichu...

5 of 139 items for 3.5%

Dominion
Dominion: Intrigue
Stone Age
Carcassonne
Notre Dame

Played several more but that would only just get me up to 10% -ish.
