I played this for the first time today and enjoyed it very much. I am curious as to why the racial tech tokens have copper, silver, and gold colors (just like the goods). Is there any reason for this other than to make them look pretty? Perhaps pirates can take techs from your spaceship of the appropriate color in the same way they can take goods?

Grades (color) of Goods
The grade of a good or a racial technology is indicated
by the color of its token. There are three grades of
goods and racial technologies: basic, premium,
and luxury. The higher a good’s grade, the more
expensive it is.

But the price is printed on it anyway. So I think his point is that the coloring is superfluous.

the reason for the color also is the type of goods any pirate encounters steal.

Depending on the color of the pirates depends on what goods they will (if you fail the encounter) remove from your holds.

Yes, but what about technologies?

A couple Encounter and Reward cards care about the color of the Technology tokens- I definitely recall a "swap a tech for another one of the same color." Granted, for the techs the color directly maps to cost, so they could just say something like "swap a tech for another one of the same price."
