Our group started off with some different strategies. Lots of paladins were placed on the board making Islands weak. Islands were quickly challenged for and taken. I couldn't quite pull it together and was in a precarious position the whole game. Eventually, Fritz got just the right pieces to take Paul's largest island and the win. I still don't see the problem with stalemating that Al and others have complained of. It seems that aggressively challenging others color majorities leaves the ownership of islands continually in doubt. It may be true that among equally skilled players the dice will determine the winner, but the same is true of pretty much any game with a random element. I still like it quite a bit.
