I seek feedback from my fellow VQ enthusiasts concerning attrition-

It is the Winter Phase. Our erstwhile Ottoman player has 12 units with Sokollu in Szegedin. There is no fortress in Szegedin. There are unrest markers in Nicopolis, Nis, and Sofia, a gift from his Spanish foe. There are two Ottoman units in Buda and one in Belgrade. The pass to neutral Ragusa is open. The Ottoman is allied for a brief time more with HRE, which controls Agram and Trieste.

Are the Ottoman units subject to attrition? At first glance, I thought they were, but upon further review, I now believe they are not, because units may trace a path through spaces controlled by allied powers, and, therefore, the Ottoman can contrive an open path of any length of adjacent land spaces or sea zones from Szegedin to Istanbul.

If the HRE were not allied with the Ottoman, and the Ottoman did not control Ragusa, would attrition result? I think yes.

If the HRE were not allied with the Ottoman, and the Ottoman controlled Ragusa, would attrition result? In this case, no attrition, Ragusa would be their lifeline.

Best wishes and a Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

No, as you say they can ship out from Trieste.

Correct. Two units could winter in Buda and three in Belgrade (they are equidistant from Szegedin) but the last seven would need to return to Istanbul, four of them dying from attrition.

Correct again.
