Some models of A-Wings had laser cannons that could rotate a complete 360 degrees, permitting an A-Wing to hit ships in the rear arc.

Should this option be permitted on A-Wings in X-Wing?

Well... If this is the final set-up for the A-Wing, as shown on the base here:
Then it would suggest, barring any pilot skills(?), no. Only forward firing seems to be allowed.

According to the technical manuals the A-Wing had swiveling cannons that allowed for an increased firing arc and targeting during tight turns. Though I doubt that will be taken into account for the figs.

They could have done that in the way of an upgrade card, maybe similar to the Ion-Canon.

If they don't I'm still fine with the A-Wing and looking so much forward to it's release.

The laser cannons could swivel up or down by 60 degrees. Basically giving them a 120 degree forward vertical arc.

This would be an advantage in 3D combat, but since the game is only 2D, there is no way to account for this.

While possible to to modify them to a complete 360 rotation (which would basically provide a forward and rear arc ala Slave 1), it was quite rare. The craft was difficult enough to fly the way it was, so increasing the firing arc that much would only make it more likely that pilots would make fatal mistakes.
