The Geek remembers where a thread was when you last visited it, and puts a nice blue border round your unread posts. So when returning to a multi-page thread you can guess which page you were up to, then iterate a bit until you get to the exact page.

But the Geek knows that and could do it for me. So how about, as a minimum, on the pages of a thread an extra link to take me straight to next unread. For more, a direct link from the Geek front page that adds unread to the numerical list. But just the minimum would be useful.

Unless of course I'm missing something ...

You might be missing the subscription system: If there's a thread I'm interested enough to return to, I subscribe to it. Then I get a notification next time somebody posts to it, and when I click the link it takes me straight to the first unread post (now highlighted in red so it stands out even more).

This has the added benefit that you also have a permanent list of threads you are interested in (via http://www.boardgamegeek.com/subscriptions/manage/feeds/thre...), so even if there have been no new posts it's easy to find the threads again.

I'm aware of the subscription system. That's OK for threads I'm especially interested in, but this is more for threads I might drop in on, and don't want to actually subscribe to.

The thick blue border system eventually times out; if you revisit a thread you haven't done in ages, you won't get it on any new posts since your last visit. Not sure how long it takes to time out (admins?), but it does mean the suggested feature wouldn't always be able to work.

An alternative workaround to using subscriptions is to bookmark the last reply you read (either in your QuickBar or your browser). You can get the direct link for a reply by clicking it's date/time stamp.
