I haven't had much of a chance to play the X-Wing Miniatures Game, nor try the extra ships I've bought (TIE Advanced and Y-Wing), but I was able to get in a game with Ian a little while ago. Ian was playing his first game, and chose to play the Imperials: Darth Vader plus three TIE Fighters against my team of two X-Wings and two Y-Wings.

Ian needed to get used to the manoeuvring of the ships, and it took just a little bit, with Darth Vader's Advanced TIE prototype bumping into one of his wingmen and Wedge gaining a target lock on him.

Trying to get out of the way, Darth Vader didn't quite manage to do so, as Luke and the TIEs also bounced into each other. This was a 100 point game, but Ian was 9 points short (only a 91 point team). The disparity in experience and points was shortly going to become apparent as my Y-Wings came into ion cannon range of the TIE fighters.

Combined fire allowed Ian to take out one of my Y-Wings (boy, they have a lot of shields and health), as Darth Vader rushed out of the conflict and swung around for another pass. Wedge and Luke also swung around, and one of the TIE fighters was destroyed under their fire.

Soon, it was back into the close quarters and poor manoeuvrability. My ships were in better position - and had a lot more health than Ian's.

And then we separated again, with a lot of red manoeuvres causing stress. The Ion cannon was wreaking havoc with Darth Vader's navigation system.

Unfortunately, some really good attacks were enough to take out both Darth Vader and one of Ian's remaining TIE Fighters. It was all over for the Empire.

Four Imperial ships destroyed for the loss of one Y-Wing: the Rebellion will take those losses!

Very nice account. Have to ask, did you use standard Y-wings or Horton/Dutch?

Yeah, at 100 points you wouldn't be able to take both Luke and Wedge as well as two named Y-Wings.

This just makes me want to play it more. Cool Stuff is having its Black Friday sale, so I went ahead and ordered a second base set (that's all I have so far), 2 Y-Wings, 2 TIE Advanced, 1 more X-Wing and 1 more TIE. That will give me 12 ships and hopefully I can post cool AARs, too!

Love the look of the mat(?) or table you're playing on... Homemade or retail?

It's a homemade table - actually, a large sheet of wood which is placed on top of a smaller table - which has been set up by my local store for wargaming. They also have green ones for fantasy-style games. Alas, no actual starscapes yet!

Cheers,
Merric
