It was a super fun build - my wife helped out quite a bit, and she's not really a gamer. Thanks Rodney for organizing the whole thing.

I've got a fever, and the only cure is MORE CRENELLATIONS!!!

I think we should have had more bivouacking to go with our crenelating. I think I'm going to pick that unit the next time we play Small World. The Bivouacking Crenalators.

That joke is never going to be not funny

Loved seeing pictures of it tweeted out - I'm sure it was amazing in person.

Just kept wishing someone would tweet pictures of some brave soul playing on it...

I had a guide, a Bedouin man, who called me 'Abu el Banat'. And whenever we'd meet another Bedouin, he'd introduce me as Abu el Banat. And the Bedouin would laugh and laugh and offer me a Pint of beer. (cont below)

And I'd go to pay them for the beer and they wouldn't let me. "Abu el Banat" means "father of daughters." They thought the beer was the least they could do.

Who provided all of the terrain?

Did anyone actually attempt to play a game on this map?

I don't believe this map was made to be playable - just to ooh and aah over. The figures were nowhere in sight. cry

Yes, the top layer tipped over but just because I couldn't reach any higher on my tiptoes. That was about 6:30am and there were a few late night stragglers playing a dexterity game on the table next to me. They looked at me for a sec but went back to their game like it was an everyday occurrence. I was so intent on getting it down quickly that I didn't take video. That would have been cool to shove the whole thing over! Should have asked Tom Vasel to record it for a Dice Tower component drop.

After a few years of doing this, I've learned that the maps don't get played very much at all, so this one was built for visual interest. Technically, it could have been played, but it would have been very difficult if the main tower got played at all. So, we didn't leave the figures out and I don't think there were requests for them.

I think that next year, there should be a camera set up to take a picture every minute so we can compile a video of the build. That would be pretty awesome

I really think this is because most folks don't realize that they are supposed to be played with. They're so damn large and impressive, it looks like a work of art.

Unless you have a sign saying "Play me! It's allowed!", most folks are not going to touch. I would have loved to play Pirates Cove, had I known at the time.

What would be great would be if you could get a new Essen release. That thing would be packed. Imagine if you had a humongous Terra Mystica or Tzolkin out there? It'd be phenomenally popular.

And perhaps next year, if such a thing is meant to be played... it could also be located in the big room?

I think that Survive: Escape from Atlantis! would make a cool Heroscape adaptation. I would play that.

Survive is a very interesting idea, I'll give that some thought. The sparkly water tiles would look cool!

And, I hear you on a "play me" sign. That would certainly clear things up.

A video (slow-mo) of someone table flipping this badboy would be amazing.

I also wish there was a "play me" sign or something similar. Probably the saddest thing about the structure is everyone took it to be art and no one actually played a game on it (that I saw...).

The only reasons we didn't play Pirate's Cove is that we weren't really familiar with the rules and really wanted to play other stuff. We did play the Through the Desert setup though. I'm still curious about where the camels came from.

I had somebody sculpt the camels and riders then I created molds and cast them. I loved that part of the process, it was fun.
