While the games are both kind of worker placement and there are social aspects to both games, they are very different. When you complete a molecule in Compounded, only you get points, where in VivaJava you have to work with the other players and all players involved get points.

However, they're both awesome games.

No. Not at all. The only 'cooperative' part of Compounded is trading elements with your opponents. You are building your compounds alone, getting points/bonuses alone, and managing your lab alone.

What have you read that concerns you of similarities? Please, ask any questions you have I will be happy to answer them.
